 Doctor’s Program in Technology and Vocational Education (DP-TVE) is established in August 15, 2008, according to the Rector Decree of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) number 4878/H40/PP/2008. The grand opening of the Doctor Program in Technology and Vocational Education (DP-TVE) is initiated by professors of Faculty in Technology and Vocational Education (FPTK), UPI as follow Prof. Dr.  As’ari Johar, Prof. Dr. Mukhidin, and Prof. Dr. Sumarto. The accreditation of Doctor’s Program in Technology and Vocational Education (DP-TVE) is B as accredited by Surat Keputusan Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi (BAN-PT), nomor: 020/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-X/D/I2013.

Docor’s Program in Technology and Vocational Education (DP-TVE) particularly experts of: Philosophy of technology and vocational education; Theory, concept, and principles about curriculum development, learning evaluation, policy analysis, and inovation of   technology and vocational education; Approach, model, strategy, method,  technic, and learning media of   technology and vocational education; Theory, concept, and learning principles of technology and vocational education with interdicipline, multidicipline, and transdicipline approach.

Therefore, the vision of Doctor’s Program in Technology and Vocational Education (DP-TVE) is particularly in accordance to UPI’s vision which is leading and outstanding. The vision is “to be a leading and outstanding program and reach international recognition in technology and vocational education.”

The objectives of the Doctor’s Program in Technology and Vocational Education (DP-TVE) is to prepare prospective students to be an educator (lecturer, teacher, instructure), a consultant in a field of technology and vocational, a planner and developer of technology and vocational education, and a senior researcher with broad range of knowledge, has a strong character, and a high level of competitiveness in national and international level, able to conduct an applied – research of technology and vocational education which oriented to national and international publication, able to establish the social dedication based research, able to contribute to the society, and able to build a partnership with associates educational institution as well as research, industri, and professional association in national and international level.

To attain the learning outcomes as planned above, the learning processes is expected to be done through the students – centered learning approach. In each and every course, learning method is likely combined by presentation, response, assistance, and assignment in a form of literature analysis (by reviewing article or book report), analysis of the curriculum in technology and vocational education, and analysis of the policy in technology and vocational education. The learning experience is utmost on the analysis, synthetis, and theoritical, conceptual and model implementation as well as the innovative development to resolve problems in technology and vocational education. As the end of the learning experience, students are expected to create a thesis (Master degree) and publish the scientific journal.

Assessment process is done by the authentic assessment approach to evaluate students achievement in course completion. The final score is the accumulative score from mid – term test, final test, and assignments required by the course. As the course is completed, students will have the qualification exam to comprehensively assess the knowledge, affective, and students capability in pedagogy, research methodology, and specific expertise on technology and vocational education. Dissertation will be assessed by two pace: thesis defense, and scientific international journal publication.

 The developmental curriculum of the Study Programm of Technology and Vocational Education is assembled based on principles of: academic education, masters and doctoral degree of Study Programm of Technology and Vocational Education which resemble the body of knowledge to support the professionalism of the graduates with consistency and sustainability; the coherence of the curriculum content connects with the general pedagogical knowledge, assessment, evaluation, and knowledge of educational content; UPI’s curriculum model is school university based curriculum, is particularly focus on programme based education in a broad view (not only schooling).

 Various student services have been developed to help students achieve the best learning outcomes and graduate on time. Some of these services are workshops on academic writing, thesis proposal and research methodology, held at least once a year.
