Sports education doctoral program is one of the doctoral study program in the School of Postgraduate Studies of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Establised with Establishment Decree No. PS (*): 137 / DIKTI / Kep / 1997 and SK Date of Establishment PS: May 30, 1997. Number of SK Operating Permit: 3808 / H40 / DT / 2010. Operational Permit SK Date: June 10, 2010. Recent Accreditation Ranking is “A” (score: 375), based on the Decree number: 020/SK/BAN-PT/Ak/IX/D/I/2013.  26 September 2013 to 2018. The study program has a vision “To produce graduates who have global insight and a pioneer in the development of sport on a national level of international competitiveness. And have missions: Preparing graduates a comprehensive insight into the field of sport education, and capable of being an academic community who have leadership and technical expertise as a researcher in the field of sport pedagogy theory, according to the taxonomic knowledge in disciplines and developed at the international level. Organizing the service of community service in a professional manner in order to participate and solve the national sports both related to education, political, economic, social or cultural. Holding as well as the internationalization of sport science through the development and strengthening of networks and partnerships at the national, regional, and international.

Doctor of Sports Education SPS UPI has very specific characteristics. First, as an education program that serves to foster sport science in order to provide services within the framework of agogik (agogical framework), as a combination or relationship orthogonal between the pedagogy (theoretical education of children) and Andragogy (theory of adult education) in physical education (physical education) and sport (sport). The service is very relevant to the needs of society at all levels and age levels, in line with the spirit of lifelong education (long-life education). Second, the scope of the study activities do not stop at the stage of concept studies and theories, but up on its implementation to the practice of teaching / training in physical education and sport. The activity is in accordance with the highly complex phenomenon in physical education and sport that involves aspects of science (science) and art (art), so it takes effort to mejembatani theory into practice, and otherwise organize practical experience into a concept or theory.

The main study Doctor of Education Sport is Sports Pedagogy, Sporta Sciences and Sports Coaching in respect of: biomechanics of sports, sporta physiology o, sports psychology, sports medicine, sports management, Evaluation and measurement sport, sports sociology , physical education, adaptive physical education, sports industry, sports traditional, sports methodologies, sports policies, outdoor education and sport tourism.

Profile graduates Sports Education is the majority become experts in the field of education and science of sports which are able to develop new knowledge, technologies, synthesize various approaches to curriculum model, applying the skills and expertise, to manage research and the problems of physical education and sport in order to provide solutions and improve the quality process and learning outcomes of students and be able to get national or international recognition. Employment of graduates are educational institutions, both public schools / madrasah / tsanawiyah, special education and training institutions, development agencies sporting achievement.

Doctor of Sports Education has partnered with a variety of Doctor of Physical Education and Sport Sciences from various other universities throughout Indonesia and abroad, partnering also with IGO (Association of Physical Education Teachers), FORMI (Federation of Reakreation Sports Indonesian Society), KONI (Committee of Sports Indonesian National) Regional and National, and other board-board in sports.

The general purpose program Doctor sports education is students have the skills and ability to take the right decision and professionals based on the analysis of information and data, and can choose a variety of alternative solutions independently and groups in solving the problems of learning and service development of learners faces in accordance with the context to obtain the best learning outcomes and optimal development of learners

 This program is a Doctor by course work with research component as capstone project

The assessment for each course is made in accordance with UPI’s Academic Guidelines. The assessment components are documented in the syllabus and course unit of each respective course and this assessment reflects students’ learning outcomes and the accomplishments of the content of the program as a form of implementation of the curriculum. The assessment components of learning outcomes are generally obtained through midterm examination and final examination. The components also include assignments in the forms of individual/group presentation, performance, portfolio, mini research reports, and papers.

In addition to assessment of course subjects, the teaching and learning process is assessed through qualification examination, which is to determine whether the students qualify to continue their studies or not. Students can take this examination if they have met the minimum requirements of 24 course credits and a minimum TOEFL score of 450. The materials included in the qualification examination consist of pedagogic content, Sport content, and knowledge of research methods. Students are declared to pass the qualification examination if they obtain a minimum score of 2.75. Those who have not gained the minimum score are allowed to take a remedial examination in the following month after the first qualification examination. Those who do not pass the second qualification examination will be considered to have dropped out of the program.

Completion of Doctor’s thesis is required for the Doctor’s degree. The thesis writing process begins with the making of research proposal supervised by a supervising lecturer and followed by a seminar of the thesis proposal reviewed by three lecturers. Following this seminar, students can conduct the research and thesis writing with the help of one or two supervising lecturers. Upon the completion of the thesis, students will take a thesis defence, which is divided into First Thesis Defence and Second Thesis Defence.

The curriculum of the Study Program of Sport Education is systematically and coherently implemented, both internally (among components in the curriculum) and externally (in relation to the field of employment). The faculty members are directed to manage their lectures by optimising students’ potentials on the basis of attitudes and behaviours which are in line with the noble virtues and local wisdoms. The lectures are developed in an attempt of helping students to achieve (learning outcome) and promoting the growth of a healthy academic culture.

Various student services have been developed to help students achieve the best learning outcomes and graduate on time. Some of these services are language courses and workshops on academic writing, research proposal, and thesis, held at least once a year.

In addition, there is Student Communication Forum, which enables students across batches and study programs to interact and exchange ideas. This forum also allows for students to hold various academic and social activities.
