MASTER PROGRAM IN PRIMARY EDUCATION POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL

General Information

The Master Program in Primary Education was established in 17 July 2006 based on a rector decree of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia No. 6156/J33/PP.03.02/2006, and started its academic activities officially in the academic year 2006/2007.

This study program is established to fullfil the need of professionals in the fields of higher education, research and development, science and technology, which in particular focus on primary education. This master program in primary education is a professional academic education which is held at the university level. This program is different from other higher education programs as the graduates of this program should combine between knowledge, skills, ethics, morality and culture. The need of knowledge in the field of primary education either theoretically or practically is more demanding, developing and complex; which therefore require professionals that are able to minimize issues and are able to provide appropriate solutions to problems in the field of primary education.

The vision of the Master Program in Primary Education is to be a Leading and Outstanding program in the field of primary education and is to be recognized in both national and international levels.

The current accreditation rank of this study program is B (Score 342), according to a decree of BAN PT No 005/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S2/VI/2012, and is valid until 8 June 2017.

Primary education is an inter-and multi-discipline science that includes primary school education, pedagogy, psychology, philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology, linguistics, and ethics. Main elements of study of the Master Program in Primary Education include general pedagogy, psychology, philosophy of science, knowledge of subject matters for primary school level (such as mathematics, science, social science, civics, and Indonesian language [Bahasa Indonesia]), curricula, learning-and-teaching, and assessment.

The Profile of graduate of this Master Program in Primary Education is an expert at the masters level in the field of primary education (particularly in primary school level), which includes the following professions: primary school teachers, primary school teacher education lecturers, and researchers as well as practitioners in the field of primary education level. Therefore the graduates of this master program will work as educators in the field of primary education as researchers, developers, and practitioners.

The aims of the Master Program in Primary Education include: a) producing graduates,  in a masters level, who have expertise in the field of primary education, who are able to be professional planners, developers, and practitioners in the field of primary education; and who are able to develop their knowledge, to solve primary education problems, and to produce innovative and reliable work; b) producing various qualified scientific work in the field of primary education which are recognized in national, regional, and international level; and c) carrying out social service program to disseminate new ideas that contribute to the development and enhancement of the quality of primary education in local, national, regional and international level.
