Along with the increasing of numbers of Japanese learner in Indonesia which become second most in the world, the needs of professional forces is keep increasing. In order to that needs, lot of new Japanese-language institution such a school or universtiy had been estabilished that naturally have to require a professional Japanese tutor.

Japanese-Language Education Study Program (PSBJ) SP.s UPI had been founded to fullfil those needs. Furthermore, PSBJ is the only master program that administer Japanese-Language Education at Indonesia, which is make a lot of Japanese institution depend to this program, especially the quality of Japanese-language professional forces that produced by this program. This had been proven with the numbers of student from all over Indonesia, such as Sulawesi, Sumatera and Bali. In general, those student is a tutor at either state university or private university, or a Japanese tutor at high school.

With such trust and responsibility, PSBJ always be requested to thrive and improve the quality of the educiaton in order to produce Japanese-language professional force that really comply the demands. This effort had been supported by UPI itself and from outside party like The Japan Foundation who provide PSBJ with special assistance like an expert, with a prospect that PSBJ will continue to exist and it existance is really needed for Japanese-language Education specially at Indonesia.

The aim of PSBJ is to produce graduates with a strong individuality, dedicated, have a responsibility as an Japanese-language profesional forces which have this kind of skills:

  1. Posses a various concept about Japanese-language education either philosophicaly or theoreticaly.
  2. Have a insight about methodology, evaluation, instructional media that relevat with Japanese-language education.
  3. Have a wide knowledge and perception about Japanese culture and linguistic in order to bolster his/her profession.
  4. Have the ability to use adequate Japanese to support his/her profession in Japanese-language education field.
  5. Able to solve a problem that occur in fields with a research.
  6. Have a high interest to spread his/her knowledge and finding by giving back to the public.

The expected learning outcomes for the Master’s Degree in Japanese Language Education Study Program of the School of Post-Graduate Studies of UPI cover a range of abilities, as follows:

Graduates of PSBJ is mean to (1) become a professional who show good work ethic and performance on Japanese-language education; (2) able to think critically, creatively and innovatively in order to improve and increase the quality of Japanese-language education; (3) have the ability to research and reasoning to solve the problem that occur on the field, and also to improve the quality of Japanese-language education; (4) able to improve the philosophical and theoretical concept in Japanese-language education;  and (5) able to give a professional service to the public.

PSBJ is using assessment system with criterion-referenced approach (PAP) and PSBJ norm referenced approach (PAN), depending to the characteristic of the respective courses. Point of the assessment include; (1) attendance rate lectures; (2) participation in discussion and presentation; (3) daily task and final task (report); (4) mid-term examination (UTS); and (5) final examination. Lecturer have the full right to asses the courses that he/she handle in accordance with the stipulation from the institution.

The curriculum of the Study Program of Japanese Language Education is sytematically and coherently implemented, both internally (among components in the curriculum) and externally (in relation to field of employment). The faculty members are directed to manage their lectures by optimising studnets potentials on the basis of attitudes and behaviours which are in line with the noble virtues and local wisdoms. The lectures are developed in a attempt of helping students to achieve (learning outcomes) and promotion the growth of healthy academic culture.

Various student services have been developed to help students achieve the best learning outcomes and graduate on time. Some of these services are language ciurses abd workshops academic writing, research proposal, and thesis, held at least once a year.

In addition, there is Student Communication Forum, which enables students across batches and study programs to interact and echange ideas. This forum also allows for students to hold various academic and social activities.
